Iqra listens to you recite, which means it handles your voice. This page says plainly what is collected, where it goes, how long it is kept, and what you can ask us to delete. It describes the service as it actually works today.
What we collect
Your account
An email address, and either a password or a Google sign-in. Accounts are handled by Supabase, which stores the credentials — we never see your password. If you sign in with Google we receive your email address and basic profile information from Google; we do not receive your Google password or gain access to any other Google service.
Your recitation audio
When you recite, your browser records audio from your microphone and sends it to our server so it can be evaluated. The microphone is only active while you are in a practice or recording screen and have given the browser permission.
There are two different paths, and they are worth telling apart:
- Practice audio is processed to work out what you said and how you articulated it, and the result comes back to you as feedback. This audio is not saved to our storage.
- Contributed recordings — the ones you make deliberately on the Contribute screen, where you are asked to record a named letter — are stored, in a private storage bucket, linked to your account. These are used to improve the model that recognises Arabic letters. This is the only audio we keep.
Your progress
Which lessons you have worked through, which sounds you have settled and which are still coming back to you, and the feedback you were given. We keep this because the whole point is that the next session builds on the last one.
What we do not collect
There are no advertising trackers, no third-party analytics scripts, and no cross-site tracking on this site. We do not sell data, and there is nothing to sell it to.
Who else processes it
We use a small number of providers to run the service. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job.
- Supabase — accounts, database, and file storage.
- Modal — runs the speech and pronunciation models. Practice audio is sent here to be analysed and is not retained there for our purposes.
- An AI model provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, depending on configuration) — receives the text of what you recited and the errors detected, so it can write the explanation you read back. It does not receive your audio or your email address.
- Vercel and Railway — hosting for the site and the server.
Sharing your progress
You can create a link that shows a read-only summary of your progress — intended for a teacher. Anyone holding that link can view that summary without logging in, so treat it like a key. Links expire after 30 days, you can hold at most five at a time, and you can revoke any of them immediately from Settings. Shared pages are excluded from search engines.
How long we keep things
- Account and progress — for as long as your account exists.
- Contributed recordings — indefinitely, because they are training data. If you ask us to delete them, we will remove them from storage; models already trained cannot be un-trained.
- Practice audio — not stored.
- Share links — 30 days, or until you revoke them.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it. Email shahfaisalwani14@gmail.com and we will act on it. You can withdraw microphone permission at any time in your browser settings; the practice features simply stop working, and nothing else about your account changes.
Children
Iqra is built for adult learners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that affects what we do with your voice or your data, we will update the date at the top and tell account holders by email.
